GTA 6 is set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Games’ official page. The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends November 30, according to NOAA’s National Hurricane Center, so launch day sits in its final stretch. The timing has a soundtrack: the launch trailer’s single is “Flower in a Hurricane,” by Justice, per Rockstar’s post on X (October 15, 2026) and God Is a Geek (October 2026).
Here is how we sort it: official means Rockstar said it on its own channels, reported means an outlet relays someone else’s story, and our read is a guess we label. The weather and wildlife below are reported. They come from the Game Informer issue 382 cover story, which went digital on September 29, and the full issue sits behind a subscription, so we credit the outlets that covered it.
The Season Ends 11 Days After GTA 6 Launches
NOAA’s National Hurricane Center says the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. It also says activity peaks around September 10, with most of it between mid-August and mid-October. By that calendar, November 19 falls 11 days before the season closes and well after the busy stretch, which makes the launch date a funny coincidence for a game with a storm system.
Our read, and only that: it is a coincidence. Nothing we found says Rockstar chose the date with storms in mind, and the date already moved twice, as we covered in our delays piece. What is official is narrow, the date and the platforms. Everything about storms and animals below is reported, which means it can still change before release.
Leonida Reportedly Gets Hurricanes and Tropical Storms
According to Dexerto (September 29), Game Informer’s cover story says tropical storms and hurricanes are coming to Leonida, with heavy clouds, strong winds, downpours, thunder and lightning. GTA Intel (September 29) and Insider Gaming (September 29) report storms too. Rockstar’s Owen Shepherd described water gushing off roof edges and lampposts as the scenery gets drenched.
Dexerto adds that the weather is reported to be more localized and persistent: you could stand in sunshine while a storm hits nearby, and puddles can remain after the rain leaves. A new wind system, per the same report, bends swamp grass, swirls hair and debris on rooftops and ripples water. Shepherd said the team re-engineered the weather system to get there.
Sunshine on one block, a downpour on the next: that is the reported pitch.
Flamingos, Manatees and Alligators Are Reportedly in the Cast
Gfinity (September 29) credits Rockstar’s Michael Kane with confirming manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators. It also reports more than 170 animal species, including 60 bird types and over 30 land mammals. Dexerto and Insider Gaming (both September 29) trace the 170-plus figure to Game Informer, and say Kane’s stated goal was to faithfully include Florida’s animal ecosystem across Leonida’s biomes.
Gfinity also says GTA V has 28 animal species. We found no second source for that number, so treat the comparison as one outlet’s claim. GTA Intel (September 29) adds invasive species from Game Informer’s web write-up, such as green iguanas, cane toads and feral cats. Dexerto says some animals are Rare, Discoverable or Legendary, and Rockstar has not said which. We will not guess what you can do with them.

What Rockstar Has Not Said About the Storms
Rockstar has not said how often hurricanes or tropical storms happen, or whether they affect missions and the story, according to Dexerto. Rockstar’s Aaron Garbut says the map is about twice the size of GTA V’s, per GTA Intel, with no area figure. Nothing we read describes damage, evacuations or any storm rule, so the hurricane is a weather event for now, not a gameplay promise.
The same goes for the animals: no full species list exists, and the reports we read do not detail how you interact with them. Until November 19, stick to Rockstar’s own pages and treat any “leaked storm gameplay” video as fake until Rockstar posts it. The real-world Florida moment of launch week is Miami’s Vice City night on November 18.
Which would you stop to watch first on launch day: the first big storm rolling over Leonida or the first flamingo?
