You know the routine. Grab the nearest car with one button, aim for the widest avenue in Los Santos, floor it and wait for the stars to drop. With GTA 6 set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Games’ official page, recent reports say several of those habits are about to meet resistance.
Here is how we sort it: official means Rockstar said it on its own channels, reported means an outlet or an interview says it, and our read means we are guessing and will tell you. Sources come with names and dates, and what we could not confirm stays out. Almost everything below is reported, not official.
GTA 6’s Streets Are Reportedly Tighter and Busier Than GTA V’s
Reportedly, Rockstar’s Aaron Garbut told Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that GTA 6’s roads are significantly narrower than GTA V’s, with denser traffic, a choice made early on. Schreier shared it in a video posted October 19, according to GTA Intel (October 20) and IBTimes (October 21). Bloomberg is paywalled, so we credit the outlets covering it. Vandal (October 20) adds the Los Santos contrast.
As Critical Hits (October 21) relays it, Garbut’s explanation is that denser, narrower streets mean many more buildings around them, and TechRadar’s headline carries the same point. Does it hold for the whole map? Vandal quotes him on Vice City specifically, and GTABase read it as mostly a Vice City matter back on September 5. No outlet we found says the entire map.
Our read: fewer gaps in traffic means fewer easy escapes.
The One-Button Car Theft Is Reportedly Gone
Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said it in an IGN interview, and Inven Global (October 7), summarizing IGN’s full transcript, reports that the single-button hotwire is gone. Some vehicles stay locked until you get tools like a key cloner or a slim-jim later in the story. Player. One (September 14) agrees. We could not open IGN’s own page, so we read it through those outlets.
Taking a car from its driver is still an option, according to Inven Global. Insider Gaming (October 7) quotes Nelson saying that at three stars, getting away in a vehicle can sometimes be challenging, and he suggests heading on foot into the alleys. Inven also notes the live demo was not prescribed and often did not go as planned, so expect messy runs.

In GTA V the best getaway car was the nearest one. GTA 6 may want a plan.
The Cops Reportedly Remember What You Wear
According to Inven Global (October 7), the new heat system means officers remember what the player is wearing, and buying a new outfit removes heat. Insider Gaming (October 7) quotes Nelson saying a new hairstyle changes your appearance, but the police still know what you are wearing, and taking the outfit off should be enough. Inven adds that switching cars, or splitting Jason and Lucia up, can also throw police off.
The crowd may not behave like GTA V’s either. Inven Global says Nelson contrasted older games, where everyone but the police ran in terror, with GTA 6, which he said is not like that. Insider Gaming reports some pedestrians may carry concealed weapons or try to stop your crime. For NPCs and police in general, see our M-rating guide.

What Is Still Unconfirmed Before November 19
Official: the date and the platforms. Reported: narrower, denser streets, no one-button hotwire, police that remember outfits. Our read, not a report: with fewer gaps in traffic, the straight run down a wide avenue probably gets harder. Nobody we found has described how chases, collisions or police driving work, so anything that sounds like a promise about pursuits is our guess, not Rockstar’s.
Until the 19th, treat these as reports that can change before release, and remember the interview came from a demo that was not scripted. Scammers love a countdown, so ignore any video promising chase footage and stick to Rockstar’s own pages. Your muscle memory still has a few weeks to cool off, and some of it may not need to come back.
Which GTA V getaway habit will you miss most: the one-button car swap or the long run down a wide avenue?
