Think of the player who stops at red lights in Los Santos and feels guilty after every robbery. In GTA V, that guilt was ours alone. Edge’s GTA 6 feature, in the November issue on sale October 29, suggests the new game may notice: police who record what you wore, strangers who care how you hold a gun, and a scale from Professional to Irredeemable. Is a game about to judge us?

Official: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Reported: the gameplay details below, from Edge’s feature by Simon Parkin, as GamesRadar+ published it. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North speaks for the studio, and Edge watched him play for 90 minutes. Every detail after that line comes from that text; our guesses are labeled. For the getaway side, see our earlier piece.

The Police Reportedly Keep a File on You

Edge describes a heat system that tracks what police have learned: your physical description, whether you worked alone or with a partner, what you wore, whether CCTV caught you and which weapon you carried. Icons at the top of the screen show those details, like the police report you are running from. Edge’s list does not mention vehicles, though a stolen car that is newer and expensive may carry a tracker.

Edge names three ways to shed a clue. If witnesses saw two people, splitting from your partner can remove that clue. Change clothes and you match the description less; drop the weapon and more evidence disappears. Escape is no longer merely a wait for the stars to fade, but a way of becoming harder to recognize. Our reading: the best getaway may now be a costume change.

Strangers Notice How You Carry a Gun

Nelson tells Edge that in GTA V you could produce a shotgun in front of someone and they would not react unless you aimed it. In GTA 6, per Edge, pedestrians notice whether it is slung on your back or held in your hands. Crowds may edge away or scatter, and others may challenge you. You can drop the weapon: Edge says there is some latitude before a wanted level begins.

Edge also says pedestrians carry personality traits: temperament, aggression, where they are, what they have seen and how you treated them. In its demo, Nelson let Jason stare a little too long at a man walking a dog. The man took it as a test, squared up and unclipped the leash. Nelson ran, and the dog gave chase before losing interest. Our reading: a stare can become a chase.

GTA V: a shotgun in plain sight drew no reaction until you aimed it. GTA 6, per Edge: slung or held now matters.

A Scale From Professional to Irredeemable

Separate from heat, Edge reports a system called the Criminal Profile. It tracks Jason and Lucia’s behavior on a scale from Professional to Irredeemable, shown with angel and devil icons. Combat need not end in death: a calculating criminal might incapacitate an enemy, or use threats first, while those who shoot first will develop a violent profile. Edge introduces it right after noting Red Dead Redemption 2’s influence on the team’s narrative ambitions.

Does it matter? Edge relays that Rockstar says your Criminal Profile will influence how Jason and Lucia’s story unfolds, and Edge itself adds that the choices are not merely cosmetic. That is the whole claim. As of November 3, the text names no mission, ending or reward tied to it, and no labels between the two ends. Our inference: until Rockstar shows more, treat it as a mirror with unknown consequences.

What If You Always Play the Good One?

Edge adds a limit on its roleplay elements in general, including the couple’s relationship: you can choose what kind of criminal you are, but not whether you are one, and Jason and Lucia cannot fully turn away from each other. Quitting crime is, though, a fundamental theme of the authored story. Our reading: the kind path is a style of stealing, not an exit from crime.

So what does mercy earn you? Nothing we read says. Edge names no punishment and no reward, and an ending for kind players would be guesswork, which we will not print. Still, a game that records your face, your gun and your restraint changes what a gentle run means. In GTA V it was a private habit. On November 19, Leonida may notice, even if we cannot yet guess its reply.

If GTA 6 kept a file on how you play, would you be proud of what it says?
