Eight hours, €100 for every one, and a free copy of GTA 6 to play them on. That is the offer in a promotion from Virgin Media Ireland that went around gaming news in late October, and it sounds like a joke until you read the details. According to the outlets that covered it, the job is real and the pay is real. Our inference: the catch is that it is advertising.
Official: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Reported, not official: everything about the promotion, which we read through Dexerto (October 27), GamingProMax and iXBT (both October 28), because Virgin Media’s own page would not open for us. None of the reports names Rockstar as a partner. Read Virgin Media’s terms before you apply.
What the Promotion Offers
Reported by the outlets we read: Virgin Media Ireland’s “Get Paid to Play GTA 6” pays €100 for each hour of play, eight hours in total, so €800, and gives the winner a free copy of the game. Dexerto says the hours can be spread across a week once the game launches. GamingProMax says the copy is the Ultimate Edition, a detail only that outlet gives.
Dexerto says eligibility was not specified. iXBT, translating a report that cites a Reddit post, says only adult residents of the Republic can enter. Reported by GamingProMax alone: Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK are excluded, a Virgin Media subscription is not required, and you need a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Our inference: if you live outside the Republic, this one is not for you.
Where the Reports Disagree
Some terms rest on a single outlet, so treat them as unconfirmed. GamingProMax alone gives a closing date of November 15 and a public Instagram or TikTok profile as a requirement; both it and Dexerto say the winner is contacted within a week of the close. Dexerto says no deadline was stated and describes a 100 to 200 word application, while GamingProMax says 200 to 300 words. Only the official page can settle it.
Our inference: promotions like this get adjusted in their first days, and outlets may be working from different versions of the rules. We could not confirm who runs the selection, how the eight hours are checked, or how and when the €800 is paid. None of those points appears in what we read, and the full rules are the only place where they could be answered.
Pay (reported): €100 per hour, eight hours, €800 in total. Prize (reported): a free copy of GTA 6. Launch (official): November 19.

The Review Is the Product
Per Dexerto, the winner has to post an honest review on social media and tag Virgin Media Ireland. GamingProMax goes further: posting between November 20 and 26, submission to Virgin Media for approval before it goes live, and a prominent #Ad. That last part comes from one outlet only, but it fits what this is, a marketing campaign that pays one person to play and then has that person post an opinion.
Our inference: “honest” and “approved by the company” sit in some tension, and the #Ad label tells viewers the review is paid. That is no criticism of anyone who applies, since many reviewers work under disclosure rules. It is a reason to read the terms for who owns the footage, what happens if you miss a deadline, and whether you may say what you really think.
Eight Hours of Paid Play
Strip away the contract and the daydream is simple: one person in Ireland gets paid to spend eight hours in Vice City in the week after launch. Launch day is November 19, and the review window one outlet reports starts the day after. Our inference: the winner gets no head start, and may even start after the rest of us.
Whoever wins will probably be playing with a camera and a calendar in mind, which is a different thing from playing for joy. Our wish for them is the same as for all of us: a first drive down the coast with the radio already on. If you live in Ireland, read the rules twice and apply in your own words.
Would being paid change the way you play your first eight hours of GTA 6?
