Somewhere in an analytics firm’s spreadsheet, your GTA 6 pre-order may be one dot inside a very large number. The figure making the rounds is 6.45 million, with about $630 million attached. Before you assume you are part of it, it helps to know who estimated it, and what they left out.
Here is the labeled version. The 6.45 million is a reported Sensor Tower estimate, relayed by GTA Intel, Notebookcheck, Insider Gaming and Khel Now. It is not official: as far as we could find on October 27, Rockstar and Take-Two have published no pre-order total. Official: launch is November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Where a line is our own reading rather than a source’s, it is marked as inference.
The Estimate Behind the Headline
Per GTA Intel, with data dated October 18, Sensor Tower estimates about 6.45 million digital pre-orders on PlayStation and Xbox, worth about $630 million. Scope is the catch: GTA Intel says worldwide, while Khel Now says the US. An earlier figure of 6.08 million from October 13, as relayed by wnhub, was described as US digital only, so the gap between the two is not a clean five-day gain.
The split, from GTA Intel and Notebookcheck, is roughly 4.80 million on PlayStation, about 74%, and 1.66 million on Xbox, about 26%. Insider Gaming, Khel Now and Beebom list the same platform totals, but not every outlet states the scope. If you are one of those PlayStation reservations, you are one of a very large group, and every digit deserves a small “about” in front of it.
Who May Be Missing From the Estimate
The first gap is the box. GTA Intel says physical copies are not in the totals. Official, per the June 24 press release as republished by Game Developer: the boxed edition carries a download code (more in our piece on the no-disc box). So if you reserved at a shop, you may be real and uncounted. As of October 27 we found no announced PC edition, so there is no PC gap to flag.
The second gap is the estimate itself. Beebom says the Sensor Tower report may be inaccurate, and that real pre-orders may be higher than anticipated, though it gives no figure. The third is geography, flagged above: if the count is US digital only, people elsewhere are outside it; if it is worldwide, as GTA Intel says, the US-only reports are off. We cannot settle it, so we will not call the number global.
A number can be enormous and still leave you out of it.

What the Dollars Do and Do Not Say
$630 million divided by 6.45 million lands near $98 a pre-order. That only holds if the figure is priced at US list prices, and scope is still open. GTA Intel reads it as most buyers choosing the Ultimate Edition at $99.99 over the Standard at $79.99, the official US prices in the June 24 release. That is GTA Intel’s inference, not a measurement; it also recalls a Sensor Tower estimate of about 89% Ultimate in August.
Per GTA Intel, the dollars are gross sales value before platform fees, not what Take-Two earns. GTA 6’s reported lead of 148% over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II at the same point before launch covers US digital pre-orders only, per GTA Intel and wnhub. Our inference: it should not be stacked on the headline estimate, because a US digital lead and a total of unsettled scope are best read apart.
The Weeks Still to Come
The estimate cannot see the final weeks yet. In August, analyst Karl Kontus said most pre-orders would arrive in the last week or so before launch, according to GTA Intel. That is a forecast, not a measurement. Official, from Rockstar’s June 24 release as republished by Game Developer: pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25, and digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading on November 12.
Whether you reserved on opening night, June 25, or are still deciding, the number only sketches the crowd. A spreadsheet can count a reservation, but it cannot count the weeks of waiting, the console space cleared or the date circled on a calendar. Those parts belong to you, and no estimate will include them, whatever the final tally says.
If the number could count one thing about your wait, what would it be?
